“The woeful Rebellion at the midnight Theatre”

This is an original comic about a playwrite who was asked to create a (Kabuki) play. However, the spirit of someone he once knew isn’t that pleased about.

This entire comic was painstakingly done physically with coloured inks and washi tape. Inspired in ways stylistically by traditional Ukiyo-e prints.

The story heavily focuses on the expectations women of Edo period Japan had to face and how that came across even in plays and literature.

I thought to mix that with a hint of the supernatural and Japanese Kabuki Theatre.

I have a love for all things Japan, but especially Kabuki Theatre, its colours, flare for the bold and dramatic, and topics of old Japan and Youkai, enchant me completly.
My love for it makes me want to put it in everywhere I can!
